If you set it to "auto-on," the light comes on automatically when you open the cooler, and turns off again when the lid is shut -- just like your refrigerator light at home! This is simply great in general terms. It helps to see what are you grabbing out from the cooler. It works as specified. The only thing is that with the ice it got some scratches when closing the cooler's lid.
Love this light! It was super easy to install using the screws in my cooler. Just be careful to put it lower so the lid doesn't hit it. I had to re-do the placement after I had already screwed it in. I didn't use the auto feature that much, but the light is bright and did the job. Once the sun went down at the campsite, it was really easy to pull out food to cook for dinner. Highly Recommend! I even plan on buying one for my Mom for Christmas for when she goes camping.
